Edgar Allen Poe?s ?The Raven? follows the supernatural atmosphere of mysterious visit of the raven. Poe the father of the gothic literature illustrates, The Raven haunts an unnamed narrator who sits reading "forgotten lore" as a method to forget the loss of his love, Lenore. A "rapping at his chamber door" excites his soul and creates creepy feeling. A similar rapping continues, slightly louder; when he goes to investigate, a raven steps into his chamber. Paying no attention to the man, the raven perches on a bust of Pallas. The speaking bird is already a creepy only repeats?Nevermore? makes scarier. It says ?Nevermore? to all his questions, thoughts and longings. The raven, a symbol of death, tells the man he will never again ("nevermore") see his beloved; never again hold her even in heaven. I think that the ?nevermore? signifies the truth, sorrow, fear, sadness, darkness, loneliness, mysteries and dilemma of the narrator. When he asked the first question ?what is your name The answer was ?nevermore?. The answer was creepy and mysterious. The narrator thinks he is blessed to see and talk with scary bird and feels that the bird is the stranger but companion in that lonely time. He also feels that the bird could be a messenger and carries some information of something that could be very important for hm. Probably his unhappy master taught him the word ?nevermore? He thinks the bird only knows that word ?nevermore?. Like other people, the bird will leave him sad and lonely later, and also signifies that no one is born to live forever. Start and end comes together, but only difference is some ends early and some takes time. He feels comfortable with bird as his sorrow changes to smile. The mean time he feels that the raven might knows about his fancy questions, thoughts and longings so he tries to make a good relation with bird so that he could find out mystery of the life from the past and in the future. He asked the question about the Lenore. But the answer is ?nevermore?. It explains that the bird don?t care about the feeling of the man or don?t understand him. It could be just an illusion about the bird; it could be a devil bird who knows the answers but don?t want to tell him. The evil creature probably came to give him a trouble or just trying to scare him, confuse him. He realized that the bird is evil and the waste, so he told the bird to leave him alone as he was before. Although he thought the bird could see his inner feeling and is going to help him to get the answers of the mysteries, he was wrong. The answer is ?nevermore?. It signifies that the bird is just the bird nothing more than a bird. It doesn?t understand his feeling nor is it going to give him company. He is master of his own. He comes and leaves where and when he feels like. Nevertheless, ?the raven? is very logically and methodically written poem, where the narrator?s dilemma is unsolved and unexplained. As he explained that the raven is evil, only says ?nevermore?; signifies the madness of narrator?s unsolved mysteries and the sorrow he went through when he lost his close ones.
